Thanksgiving is right around the corner! And for more than 10 years, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has been Giving Tuesday – a day to support the nonprofit organizations that make a difference in the community.
Giving Tuesday is December 3, 2024.
This Giving Tuesday, join us as we strive to recognize and celebrate Wyck’s lasting contributions to history and horticulture in Pennsylvania. Our 2024 Giving Tuesday campaign focuses on the installation of a Pennsylvania state historic marker on Germantown Avenue. We are seeking your generous support to raise $3,000 – the cost to install the marker and beautify the area around it. Your contributions will ensure that Wyck’s historic significance will be recognized by visitors for generations to come.
The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission administers its program of historical markers to capture the stories of people, places, events, and innovations that have affected the lives of Pennsylvanians over the centuries. More than 2,500 markers across the state feature subjects such as women’s histories, indigenous histories, government and politics, industrial history, sports, the arts, and more. These Pennsylvania historical markers are listed and searchable online, meaning that Wyck and its enduring story will be discoverable to researchers and visitors from around the country.
Wyck is home to more than 10,000 objects collected by the Wistar-Haines family assembled over their 200+ years of stewardship. Nine consecutive generations called Wyck home, and their legacy endures both through their treasured possessions and through Wyck’s adherence to their Quaker values of equity and access in the present day. The property is also home to our nation’s oldest ornamental rose garden still growing in its original plan, which served as a valued place for study and repose for generations of Wistar-Haines family members. Through this historic marker, Wyck will be publicly recognized for the Wistar-Haines family’s profound contributions to history, horticulture, and the arts in Pennsylvania.

Mark your calendars and plan to join us for the marker unveiling ceremony on May 3, 2025.
